Experimental Study of Mechanical Properties of Fiberglass Reinforcement

Hil A., Lazouski Ya.

ABSTRACT

Experimental studies are focused on determining the mechanical characteristics of the FRP reinforcing bar of the stated diameter 8, 10 and 12 mm, produced in the Republic of Belarus. Investigations were carried out on two series of samples, wherein the inner surface of the test couplings to hold test bars in a tensile testing machine. The test has been carried out according to GOST 32492–2015 “Сomposite polymer Reinforcement for reinforcement concrete structures. Methods of determination of physical-mechanical characteristics”. In addition to the failure load during the tests was determined relative strain gauges with divisions of 0.01 mm to 100 mm. With the aim of finding more economical version of the test, fittings were manufactured and tested two prototypes that differ from the basic series geometric parameters of the test couplings that, after the analysis of the test results enabled to produce more economical option couplings for testing. Tests of the third series of couplers has enabled savings of steel and epoxy adhesive 30 and 45%, respectively. This article describes the fracture behavior of glass-plastic rods, features the work of up to brittle fracture diagrams of the deformation of the reinforcement, which confirm the linear deformation of the composite. The results of the experiment presented quantitative values of tensile strength, modulus and elongation at break rod, conclusions about the impact of the cross-sectional area of the rod on these characteristics. On the basis of the results obtained revealed the characteristic features and the major disadvantages of fiberglass reinforcement of the Belarusian production, conclusions about the rationality of the use of such reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete bending elements, in particular in the hybrid reinforcement (i. e., in conjunction with metal reinforcement).

Keywords: composite, tensile strength, elastic modulus, fracture properties at break, test couplings.
